Is caffeine helping or hurting when it comes to your mental health?

Many of us love to start our day with a cup of coffee. A morning just isn’t the same without it! But, sometimes that first cup leads to a second, and maybe a third, and perhaps even a fourth.

Have you ever wondered if all that caffeine is even good for you?

Well, the answer may be in your genes!

When it comes to caffeine and its impacts on mental health, we can look to the ADORA2A gene, which plays a role in how the brain interacts with caffeine.

For some people (those with the TT genotype), consumption of even 100mg of caffeine (the amount in approximately 1 small cup of coffee) can increase feelings of anxiety.

For those with the CC or CT genotype, consuming caffeine has no effect on anxiety levels.
