Curcumin and Ginger – Natural Integrative Interventions for Joint Structure Support

There are many types of anti-inflammatory nutrients that are helpful for joint structure support. In this article, I will share on curcumin and ginger.

Curcumin

Curcumin is a natural plant phenolic compound that has been shown to have potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Studies show that curcumin may represent a possible alternative to steroids and that it may complement the activity of some OA medications.

Effectiveness of curcumin for people with OA could be due to its ability to weaken Nf-kB signaling, reduce the production of inflammatory mediators, and interfere with cartilage destruction. Therefore, curcumin has been recommended by doctors and healthcare professionals for the long-term complementary management of OA.

Ginger

Ginger is related to curcumin. It has traditionally been used for a wide variety of medicinal purposes due to its antioxidant, anti-microbial, and anti-inflammatory properties. Evidence-based scientific research suggests ginger supplementation may diminish the experience of pain, especially with respect to OA.

Clinical research studies have demonstrated that oral ginger extract can improve OA symptoms, and may be as effective as medication like ibuprofen. Remarkably, when applied topically in the form of a warm compress, ginger promotes relaxation and analgesia.

Recommended dosage of nutrients to ease inflammation

Curcumin: 400 – 800 mg daily

Ginger: standardized extract of 150 – 300 mg daily
