A Holistic Approach to Diabetes
Diabetes is a chronic, metabolic disease characterised by elevated levels of blood glucose (or blood sugar), which gradually leads to serious damage to the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys and nerves.

The most common is type 2 diabetes, also known as non-insulin-dependent diabetes, usually in adults, which occurs when the body becomes resistant to insulin or does not make enough insulin.

Type 1 diabetes, also known as insulin-dependent diabetes, usually in children or adolescents, and for some, may also occur in early adulthood. This is a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin by itself.

For people living with diabetes, access to affordable treatment, including insulin, is critical to their survival. There is a globally agreed aim to stop the rise in diabetes and obesity by 2025.

According to World Health Organisation (WHO), about 422 million people worldwide have diabetes, the majority living in low-and middle-income countries, and 1.6 million deaths are directly attributed to diabetes annually. Both the number of cases and the prevalence of diabetes have been steadily increasing over the previous few decades.
When the Balance is Disrupted by Complex Carbohydrates VS Simple Carbohydrates

We often consume food that contains simple carbohydrates like refined sugars, white rice, bread and flour products. During digestion, these simple carbohydrates are digested and turns into blood sugar more quickly than complex carbohydrates like brown rice and whole wheat products.

When this happens, blood sugars are released into the blood streams at a faster rate which causes the blood pH to become more acidic. In the long run, this may lead to other health concerns.
Can we prevent and manage diabetes?
Yes! Diabetes is preventable, and also manageable.

A holistic approach to diabetes is to address the mind, body and soul/spirit. This means to intentionally make healthy and positive changes a priority to our lives.

We can do these by incorporating healthier dietary choices which emphasise on plant-based meals; and lifestyle choices to include exercises like brisk walking, swimming, cycling, or do strength-resistance exercises into our schedules.

Also, we can incorporate healthy emotion balance and releases, such as having some time for hobbies like painting, drawing, singing, gardening, handicrafts or join support care groups.
People with diabetes can continue to live quality lives.

It is about learning how to use the right keys in your lives to unlock and handle your health conditions with wisdom, love and care.

Diabetes and its consequences of major health disruptions to our immune system, nerves, kidneys and bladder, heart and circulation, vision and sensitive skin concerns can be kept at bay when you decide to make healthier and positive choices in your lives.
