A Second Chance to Live Our Lives Healthier & Happier
When our bodies are injured – say, a cut on the finger – the cells surrounding the cut reproduce to replace the ones that have been wounded. These cells “know” when to stop reproducing once they have filled up the injured part.
Occasionally, a cell begins to reproduce for no good reason. The “daughter” cells that it produces, form a lump. This is cancer (explained simply in layman terms).
Often, a cell from this growth, or tumour, spreads to other parts of the body and begins reproduction there. Ultimately, this abnormal tissue interferes with the ability of the body and its cells, organs, and other structures to perform their appointed functions, and sickness or death results.
Statistics reveal that cancer is a rare disorder until the 20th century. The sharp increase in cancer and mortality parallels the modernization of the world, and the spread of the modern way of eating - high in saturated fat, cholesterol, sugar, salt, and highly processed foods.
Cancer incidences also coincide with the introduction of canned, bottled, and frozen foods; chemical agriculture; electric and microwave cooking; fast and convenience foods; and genetically altered foods.
Modern diet and environmental pollutants are widely believed to be two of the major causes of cancer. Scientists believe that these risk factors increase the body’s exposure to free radicals. They theorize that damage from free radicals is an important factor in causing the uncontrolled cellular growth that is characteristic of cancer.
A healthy person can deal with a limited amount of excess nutrients or toxic materials consumed in his or her daily food. This imbalance can be naturally eliminated through sweating, urination, bowel movement, perspiration, or daily activity that burns off excess metabolic energy.
However, if the person continues to take in too much excess, the body resorts to an abnormal measure of discharge, like: colds, fever, coughing, skin rashes, and other symptoms, to expel the accumulated toxins. Such body reactions are natural adjustments to help the body to maintain a natural balance.
It is common for people in modern society to use over-the-counter medications, prescription drugs, and other methods to suppress these symptoms which the organs try to expel and remove from their bodies. Although such methods bring fast relief but these separate people from the natural workings of their own bodies and put these natural responses of detoxifying toxins at bay.
As long as excessive nutrients and energy (calories) from daily food continue to accumulate and exceed the body’s normal or abnormal toxins discharge capacity, they will continue to be stored inside the body. These storage areas gradually grow and develop into growths. When they reach their limit, they spread and overflow into new storage areas.
If the person continues to eat foods that burden instead of nourishing the body and in excessive amounts over prolong durations, these excess continues to gather, accumulate and spread in order to continue normal living functions.
Cancer treatments like chemotherapy, radiation, hormone therapy, or surgery are methods that are used to treat cancers by eliminating symptoms but these do not address the origin of the disease, which is underlying dietary and environment imbalance.
When we realise the underlying origin and cause of their cancer, this entire process can often be reversed. Through proper food, including special dishes, drinks; lifestyle changes; addressing one’s emotions and wiliness to renew the minds, all these would work together for the good of the patient to recover well.
When we look at cancer positively, we can see that cancer serves to provide a second chance to live our lives healthier and happier.
Adopting a holistic and integrated approach, combining nutrition, lifestyle and emotional balances with conventional therapies, is helpful for cancer patients to aid in their recoveries, and prevent or manage relapses of their conditions.
